2022 Annual Business Meeting & Luncheon
The Post-Pandemic Economy | Topic-Leadership | Topic-Human Resources

Please join us for The Employers’ Association’s 82nd Annual Business Meeting. During the business portion of our meeting President Jason Reep will review The Association’s 2021 accomplishments and plans for 2022, Chair Brenda Johnston will share her thoughts and observations from the Board’s perspective, and Felecia Meyering (with McKeown Kraai Professional, CPAs) will provide a review of 2021 Financials.

TEA has provided practical HR Solutions to the West Michigan business community since 1939 by ensuring you have the tools and resources necessary to make sound and appropriate operational decisions. Recognizing the volatile and unpredictable nature of today’s Business AND Economic Markets, we are pleased to welcome Dr. Michael Horrigan, President of the W.E. Upjohn Institute for Employment Research, as our Keynote Speaker this year. Attendees will learn the economic effects that the COVID pandemic has had on our current economy and what we can look forward to as we move forward within a post-pandemic world.

West Michigan is currently facing severe labor shortages and the highest quit rates ever, placing incredible stress on employers trying to hire workers and inflation rates are the highest in 40 years. Dr. Horrigan will provide details on the extent of labor market shortages and prospects for the future as well as insight into the current state of inflation, the Fed’s response, and the likely path forward. He will also present projections of the direction of the economy (GDP, employment, inflation, and other variables) and key indicators for business as we move forward from the crippling effect that COVID has had on the National and our local economies.

Dr. Horrigan has been the President of the W.E. Upjohn Institute for Employment Research since March of 2019. The Institute, headquartered in Kalamazoo, MI, is a private, not-for-profit, nonpartisan, independent organization founded in 1945 that conducts high-quality research on labor markets focusing on the causes of unemployment, the effectiveness of social safety net programs, the impact of education and training on workers’ employability and earnings, the influence of state and local economic development policies, and the analysis of regional economic conditions. The Institute also administers federal, state, and locally funded employment and training programs to assist job seekers and employers throughout Southwest Michigan.

Prior to joining The Institute, Dr. Horrigan worked for 32 years in a variety of positions within the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Most recently (from 2015 to 2019), he ran the employment and unemployment programs at BLS, including the publication of the national civilian unemployment rate and the monthly payroll jobs numbers and, prior to that, Mike oversaw all of the price and inflation programs at BLS.
