Advantage:

This certificate provides participants with a comprehensive understanding of principles of the human resource function. Each seminar focuses on one specific area within the HR discipline that, when combined with other seminars, gives the student a solid understanding of the HR function. The certificate program is geared toward individuals new to the HR function and to individuals wishing to refresh their understanding of what is current in the world of HR.

How it Works:

Complete three (3) half day HR skills seminars of your choice, in addition to the six (6) required seminars, within 12 months to earn the HR Skills Certificate. (One full day seminar counts as two (2) half day seminars). Any of the HR Skills seminars can be taken alone without enrolling in the certificate program.

Each program has been approved for recertification credits through the HR Certification Institute (HRCI) & SHRM.

ADVANCED STUDY OF LEGAL COMPLIANCE - HOW IT IMPACTS WORKPLACE CULTURE IN A NEW DECADE - NEW
This two-part workshop addresses compliance with various Michigan and federal employment laws from a legal perspective. The program covers employment legal requirements and recent legal workplace developments, and offers insight into following these employment laws without compromising a positive workplace climate or sinking into familiar legal pitfalls.

Participants will engage in facilitated conversations and apply legal information to real world scenarios in order to build skills and understand the perspective of all parties involved

COACHING FOR IMPROVED PERFORMANCE
Conflict in the workplace can be disruptive. Handled correctly, it can also be constructive. This seminar teaches managers, supervisors, and team leaders effective techniques for coaching employees who are involved in some form of conflict. Attendees will gain practical techniques for coaching employees and will increase their confidence in handling conflict effectively.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
This program will introduce participants to the “rewards” side of an organization – the compensation and benefits. Participants will look at what the considerations are when deciding to establish a compensation plan and what types of plans there are along with benefit options and considerations to keep in mind when deciding which to offer.

EMPLOYEE PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT - (required)
This program focuses on the process of communicating and clarifying job responsibilities, priorities, and performance expectations. Included is the process of positive progressive discipline to be applied when job performance is not meeting expectations.

EMPLOYEE SELECTION & INTERVIEWING - (required)
Recruiting and hiring the right people is the key to success for any organization. In this program, the entire selection process is examined including position analysis, determining necessary qualifications, candidate screening, the job interview, pre-employment testing, and background investigations.

FUNDAMENTALS OF FMLA
New to Human Resources? Or just reached, or close to reaching, the 50 employee threshold for FMLA compliance? Then plan to attend this half day session for an overview of the FMLA regulations and updates.

HR BASICS: A COMPLIANCE OVERVIEW - (required)
Human Resource Professionals will learn about the most common Federal and State laws that influence the employment relationship at all levels of any organization.

HR DOCUMENTATION AND RECORDKEEPING - (required)
This program provides a comprehensive look at the practical aspects of creating and maintaining an effective HR record information management (RIM) system.

HR METRICS AND FINANCE - (required)
This half day course will give participants an introduction to several key HR metrics that can be used to report the current conditions and trends in your organization. Participants will learn how to conduct basic statistical analysis to better evaluate (and/or develop) HR strategies, and how to apply them within their organization.

HR POLICY WRITING AND HANDBOOK DEVELOPMENT
This program provides a complete review of how and when to develop policies and how to take those policies to the next step and develop them into an employee handbook.

NEW EMPLOYEE ONBOARDING - (required) - NEW
This program will enable participants to identify the limitations of their existing new employee onboarding processes and select new, high-value strategies and practices to maximize the effectiveness of their current onboarding process.

TRAIN THE TRAINER TECHNIQUES THAT WOW THEM
This practical 1-day workshop is geared toward new training professionals and employees with little or no training experience who are asked to train staff. It provides you with a strong “how-to” overview of the entire training function from understanding your audience, creating an interactive agenda, engaging your audience, and ensuring the content is received. You will leave the workshop confident and fully prepared to tackle any training assignment!

WAGE AND SALARY ADMINISTRATION
This workshop reveals the “mysteries” of basic wage/salary administration. The program covers the establishment of a pay administration system, the level of employee interaction necessary to make it work, and the management commitment needed to successfully implement such a program. Participants will work with a job rating system, write and analyze job descriptions and discuss ways to link performance with compensation

WORKPLACE BULLIES: HOW TO HANDLE THIS UNPROFESSIONAL BEHAVIOR
This seminar explores the behaviors of bullying and the impacts of this negative behavior on the bully’s victims and others. This 3.5-hour course defines bullying and presents strategies for dealing effectively with bullying behavior.
