HRG June 2018 Meeting

HRG June 2018 Meeting
FULL | Recruiting: There Are More Resources

Please join us at the next HRG meeting as Sandra Gaddy, CEO of The Women’s Resource Center helps us to explore the opportunities around hiring and retaining “returning citizens” (those who have been incarcerated).

Sandra will share information about the Women’s Resource Center’s New Beginnings and Training to Work programs that provides mentoring services to women at Kent County jail pre-release and up to 18 months post-release, along with certificate based training opportunities at GRCC.

Components of the program include:
One-on-one and group mentoring.
Employability assessments coupled with individual employment development plans
Employability and life skills workshops
Job placement and retention assistance
Strength-based case management services connecting returning women with community and social services resources.

Nate Plantinga of Miller Johnson will provide additional information and legal considerations around background checks as they related to hiring “returning citizens” and how to make these hires a win-win for everyone.

This program will fulfill the SHRM competencies of: Business Acumen along with Talent Acquisition and Retention.

This program will also fulfill the HRCI functional areas of Business & Management Strategy and Workforce Planning and Employment because it will assist HR in building a better workforce while enhancing the community with more skilled and well-rounded citizens.

** We will be holding a clothing drive at this meeting to support WRC’s Working Women’s Clothing Closet.  Due to space constraints they ask that items be clean, professional and in-season.  Click here for more information.

Looking forward to seeing you there!
