Advantage:

This certificate provides participants with a comprehensive understanding of principles of the human resource function. Each seminar focuses on one specific area within the HR discipline that, when combined with other seminars, gives the student a solid understanding of the HR function. The certificate program is geared toward individuals new to the HR function and to individuals wishing to refresh their understanding of what is current in the world of HR.

How it Works:

Complete four (4) half day HR skills seminars of your choice, in addition to the five (5) required seminars, within 12 months to earn the HR Skills Certificate. (One full day seminar counts as two (2) half day seminars). Any of the HR Skills seminars can be taken alone without enrolling in the certificate program.

Each program has been approved for recertification credits through the HR Certification Institute.

AFFIRMATIVE ACTION - UNDERSTANDING YOUR ORGANIZATION'S RESPONSIBILITIES AND COMPLIANCE OBLIGATIONS
Your organization may be legally required by the federal government to create and implement an Affirmative Action Plan (AAP) if you have at least 50 employees and $50,000 in federal contracts or subcontracts. This can be an overwhelming process even for the most seasoned HR professionals. This course is designed to help you understand your responsibilities and obligations.

CASE STUDIES IN EMPLOYMENT LAW - (Employment Law Application is a prerequisite).
This session examines employment law through case studies under Title VII including ADEA, FLSA, and ADA. Attendees will be able to practice and apply the knowledge gained to interpret and manage a variety of employment law situations. An intensive discussion presented by a local employment attorney.

COACHING FOR IMPROVED PERFORMANCE
Conflict in the workplace can be disruptive. Handled correctly, it can also be constructive. This seminar teaches managers, supervisors, and team leaders effective techniques for coaching employees who are involved in some form of conflict. Attendees will gain practical techniques for coaching employees and will increase their confidence in handling conflict effectively.

COBRA/HIPAA: BEFRIENDING THE MONSTERS IN THE CLOSET
This program reviews the acts, rules, regulations and requirements for compliance. These topics are covered in a straightforward, plain English manner to help demystify the language and conditions of these topics.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
This program will introduce participants to the “rewards” side of an organization – the compensation and benefits. Participants will look at what the considerations are when deciding to establish a compensation plan and what types of plans there are along with benefit options and considerations to keep in mind when deciding which to offer.

EMPLOYEE PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT - (required)
This program focuses on the process of communicating and clarifying job responsibilities, priorities, and performance expectations. Included is the process of positive progressive discipline to be applied when job performance is not meeting expectations.

EMPLOYEE SELECTION & INTERVIEWING - (required) Formerly called The Hiring & Orientation Process
Recruiting and hiring the right people is the key to success for any organization. In this program, the entire selection process is examined including position analysis, determining necessary qualifications, candidate screening, the job interview, pre-employment testing, and background investigations.

EMPLOYMENT LAW APPLICATION
This half day program offers an overview of the legal issues associated with day-to-day employment decisions and actions. This session provides information on legislation, court decisions, and enforcement procedures that affect the employment relationship. An overview discussion presented by a local employment attorney.

FUNDAMENTALS OF FMLA
New to Human Resources? Or just reached, or close to reaching, the 50 employee threshold for FMLA compliance? Then plan to attend this half day session for an overview of the FMLA regulations and updates.

HR BASICS: A COMPLIANCE OVERVIEW - (required)
Human Resource Professionals will learn about the most common Federal and State laws that influence the employment relationship at all levels of any organization.

HR DOCUMENTATION AND RECORDKEEPING - (required)
This program provides a comprehensive look at the practical aspects of creating and maintaining an effective HR record information management (RIM) system.

HR METRICS AND FINANCE - (required)
This half day course will give participants an introduction to several key HR metrics that can be used to report the current conditions and trends in your organization. Participants will learn how to conduct basic statistical analysis to better evaluate (and/or develop) HR strategies, and how to apply them within their organization.

HR POLICY WRITING AND HANDBOOK DEVELOPMENT
This program provides a complete review of how and when to develop policies and how to take those policies to the next step and develop them into an employee handbook.

MANAGING MILLENNIAL EMPLOYEES (Integrating Generational Values is a prerequisite).
This course will explore the millennial generation in context of other generations. Participants will identify key characteristics of younger workers, engagement strategies for younger workers, and development techniques for younger workers. Managers will be challenged to identify the strengths and challenges that Millennials bring to their workplace and if their tried and true management techniques still apply.

TRAIN THE TRAINER TECHNIQUES THAT WOW THEM
This practical 1-day workshop is geared toward new training professionals and employees with little or no training experience who are asked to train staff. It provides you with a strong “how-to” overview of the entire training function from understanding your audience, creating an interactive agenda, engaging your audience, and ensuring the content is received. You will leave the workshop confident and fully prepared to tackle any training assignment!

WORKPLACE BULLIES: HOW TO HANDLE THIS UNPROFESSIONAL BEHAVIOR
This seminar explores the behaviors of bullying and the impacts of this negative behavior on the bully’s victims and others. This 3.5-hour course defines bullying and presents strategies for dealing effectively with bullying behavior.

WAGE AND SALARY ADMINISTRATION
This workshop reveals the “mysteries” of basic wage/salary administration. The program covers the establishment of a pay administration system, the level of employee interaction necessary to make it work, and the management commitment needed to successfully implement such a program. Participants will work with a job rating system, write and analyze job descriptions and discuss ways to link performance with compensation.
