Enrolling for this Summer/Fall certificate program provides participants with a comprehensive understanding of the communication process. Each course focuses on a particular area of communication that, when combined with other courses, gives the student a wealth of information on communication and a wide range of techniques and skills necessary to be an effective communicator.

How it Works:

Complete three (3) half day communication skills seminars of your choice, in addition to the one (1) required seminar, within 12 months to earn the Communication Skills Certificate. Any of the Communication Skills seminars can be taken alone without enrolling in the certificate program.

BUSINESS PROFESSIONALISM: HOW WHAT YOU SAY AND DO BUILDS YOUR IMAGE
This seminar will explore the essentials of good interpersonal communication and professionalism in the workplace. We will discuss tools and strategies to better communicate our professionalism and continue to build a positive image.

BUSINESS WRITING SKILLS
You have to send a report to your boss explaining why you need to increase your budget. You have to send a report to the insurance company regarding a worker’s comp claim. You have to document your employee reviews. You need to respond to emails. Writing is part of your life – are you certain you’re using your words to the fullest? Take this course to learn how to make sure your words work for you!

CREATING FANATIC FANS FOREVER
This program provides specific methods for consistently creating an excellent customer experience. Participants will learn approaches and techniques for dealing with any customer with the ultimate goal of creating fanatic fans forever including: what customers really want, words that empower or deflate and how to take service to the next level of excellence!

EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION SKILLS - (required)
This course covers both spoken and written communication. Students will learn effective public speaking skills, memo/report writing skills and non verbal communication. Each skill is practiced in class.

EFFECTIVE DECISION MAKING
This course helps employees master a systematic approach to making better—and faster—decisions that will result in more effective performance.

FEEDBACK FUNDAMENTALS
When sharing feedback is part of an organization’s culture, it is an effective business tool that reaches across all levels. In this course, individual performers learn how to effectively deliver both positive and developmental feedback. They also learn how to be receptive to feedback and to listen to accurately understand the speaker’s intended message.

INTEGRATING GENERATIONAL VALUES
This seminar outlines the four generations in the workforce today and identifies key characteristics for each generation. We provide insight into how each employee in your workforce can learn from the different generations, resulting in more effective communication, productivity and motivation. We’ll explore the barriers to productivity and discuss how to address these in the workplace. It doesn’t matter if you’re a GI Generation, Baby Boomer, and Gen Xer or Nexter, what matters is how we understand, work and communicate with each other in the most effective manner.

LEARNING TO LISTEN
Effective listening is the key to successful interactions with others and is the single most important skill of successful leaders. This session will utilize a Learning to Listen assessment which focuses on both the visible and invisible aspects of listening behavior and measures listening skill in 3 dimensions: Staying Focused, Capturing the Message, and helping the Speaker.

POWERFUL PRESENTATION SKILLS
When speaking before a group, do you have “executive presence”? Are you able to persuade people to take action, change their attitudes, and buy a product? If you want to polish your presentation skills, this seminar will help you fine-tune your speaking skills. Participants will learn how to organize their thoughts in a concise manner, use effective platform skills to deliver an impactful presentation and control nerves.
